Second-hand cars cheaper again!

14 June 2024

The occasion market has taken an interesting turn: prices have once again fallen sharply. The main reason for this is the increasing supply of used cars. Recent world events, such as the war in Ukraine, also play a role. A great opportunity to search online again for a nice second-hand car (on our website, for example)  without having to pay the top price!

€2,000 in 1 year

After a period of price hikes due to events such as the pandemic and the global chip shortage, we are now seeing the change take hold. For example, according to Autoscout24.co.uk, the average price of an occasion has fallen by over €2,000 in 1 year! This is mainly the result of increased supply and reduced demand. There has also been a lot of influence from fluctuations in the economy and world events such as the war in Ukraine.

Effect on EVs visible

The rising supply of electric used cars is also causing price changes. Since this year, five-year-old electric cars (EVs) are more affordable than petrol cars (after deducting €2,000 purchase subsidy). In addition, an electric used car can also bring benefits in the long run. The batteries of these EVs often stay in tip-top shape for longer than you might think, which increases the car's resale value. If you still have doubts about the condition of the battery, you can easily have it checked by an expert such as Dekra these days.

This presents a great opportunity for you to replace your current car with a nice (electric) occasion. Moreover, you can perfectly combine this switch with making your own or your company's lifestyle more sustainable. For example, consider the planned zero-emission zones and make sure you can still enter the city centre with your company car. Or take advantage of the attractive SEBA-subsidy (Emission-free Commercial Vehicles Subsidy Scheme: with this you receive up to 12% subsidy on the purchase price of an electric van, up to a maximum of €5,000).

Doubts about electric driving?

That more electric second-hand cars are being offered is a fact. Yet opinion on buying and selling appears to be rather divided.  What will the government decide? Will a battery keep doing its job? Is maintenance really that cheap? At Lease.car, we offer tailored advice and can help you with all these questions. We will be happy to search for your EV pearl and help you eliminate risks by performing a battery test, for example. Leave your details via the link below and one of our leasing advisers will contact you within 15 minutes for no-obligation advice!
