How does additional tax on electric cars work? That depends on when the car was first registered. When a car is registered for the first time, the addition category in force at that time applies. This will remain fixed for 5 years, after which it will be in the category in force at that time. These vehicles therefore have no C02 emissions. From 2019, however, things are going to change in this category. Vehicles up to a list value of €50,000 will remain in the 4%. Vehicles with a list value higher than €50,000 will fall into the 22% addition category. The scheme only applies for 2019 and 2020. From 2021, 22% will be charged on the entire list value of the object, even for fully electric cars.
Cars such as Volkswagen e-Golf, e-Up, Renault Zoe and the Hyundai Ioniq are vehicles that are under €50,000, so these will have the 4% additional taxable value until 2020. How does additional tax on electric cars work? For the Tesla Model S, Model X and the Jaguar I-Pace, an additional tax rate of 22% already applies from 2019 given that they have a list value higher than €50,000
