Yes, a margin car can be sold to a business buyer. In some cases, a car dealer may choose to convert the margin sale into a VAT sale. The purchase price is then recalculated and the business buyer receives a VAT invoice, allowing them to reclaim the VAT.
However, this depends on the situation and on whether the selling dealership is willing to structure the sale this way.
Normally, a margin car is sold without separately stating VAT. The VAT is already included in the sales price and cannot be reclaimed.
If a dealership decides to sell the car as a VAT vehicle:
The price is recalculated to a price excluding VAT
A VAT invoice is issued
The business buyer may reclaim the VAT
This must always be agreed upon in advance.
