A deep dive into the recently increased SEBA and AanZET grants

🚀 Great news for entrepreneurs! On 26 July 2024, the SEBA (Emission-Free Company Cars Subsidy Scheme) subsidy was increased by €30 million, bringing the total budget to €60 million. This scheme provides entrepreneurs with up to €5,000 support per vehicle and runs until the end of the year, or until the subsidy pot is exhausted. At the same time, we saw a similar increase of €22.3 million in the AanZET scheme, aimed specifically at the purchase of N2 or N3 trucks, opening the door for both large companies and non-profit organisations to consider more sustainable transport options. 

The role of Royal RAI Association 

The recent increase in the SEBA grant was warmly welcomed by the Royal RAI Association, a leading voice in the mobility sector. According to them, this additional funding is essential to accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility. As of April 2024, we have already received €27 million in grant applications.  

Need for the subsidy 

These subsidies are not just financial incentives; they are a necessity in light of the establishment of zero-emission zones in cities and the phasing out of BPM exemption for diesel vehicles. The higher investment cost for electric commercial vehicles is an obstacle for many entrepreneurs. The subsidy will allow them to bridge these extra costs and make the switch to zero-emission vehicles. 

Changes to the SEBA scheme in 2024 

This year we will see important changes to the SEBA scheme: 

• Subsidy rates: For large enterprises, the subsidy rate has been reduced from 10% to 7%, while for medium and small enterprises it remains 10% and 12%, respectively. 

• Determination period: There is now a 12-month determination period, with a potential 7-month deferral, providing more flexibility in the subsidy process. 

• Last year of SEBA: 2024 marks the last year for this grant, due to changing economic conditions and policy adjustments.
